What is Self Care?

Search Self-care into Pinterest and you'll get lost down the rabbit hole of all the things to do, eat, drink and journal about. Search the hashtag #selfcare into Instagram and you'll get inspiration from all the latest updates. It's true, self-care is one of the most important things you can do. It is something I believe to be absolutely necessary in life. Self-care can bring you balance, serenity, clarity, space, the list goes on. There is something that not everyone will tell you about self-care though...Sometimes, it can be uncomfortable, maybe even a little bit painful. Self-care isn't always hot baths, a good book, and a yoga class. Self Care isn't always going for a quiet walk on a beautiful sunny day. Sometimes, self-care may be ending the relationship you know isn't working out. It could be letting go of any toxic things or people in your life. Self-care could be feeling those hard emotions, riding the waves of hurt, pain, devastation so they can finally exit your body. It could be stepping into the abyss of the unknown, the darkness of "what if" so you can take that risk you've been dying to take. Maybe it's moving away, starting a new job or even just asking that person that caught your eye for their number. Self-care could be letting go of those things that no longer serve you. Self-care can be scary...absolutely terrifying at times.

The baths, the good books, the massages, and yoga classes are wonderful and just as necessary. It is always important to take time for those things that you love and that bring you joy. But, also know that self-care can also be a tough yet just as necessary process.
